Alder 1x4 Nickel-Gap Tongue & Groove Paneling

Description

This alder tongue-and-groove paneling is milled to a 1x4 profile (15mm × 90mm) with a nickel-gap reveal, meaning each board seats firmly into the next while leaving a narrow shadow line between faces. That gap does two things in a sauna environment: it gives the wood room to expand and contract with heat cycles without buckling, and it creates a clean, linear aesthetic that reads as intentional craftsmanship rather than a construction gap.

Alder is a traditional sauna wood chosen for its low resin content and relatively low thermal mass — it heats up quickly and stays comfortable to the touch even at high bench-level temperatures. The STS4 tongue-and-groove profile locks boards edge-to-edge so fasteners can be hidden through the tongue, keeping the finished wall or ceiling surface completely clear of visible nail heads.

Key Features

• STS4 nickel-gap profile creates a recessed shadow line between boards, adding visual texture and allowing for natural wood movement during humidity and heat cycles.
• Alder species stays cooler to the touch than denser hardwoods, an important comfort consideration for surfaces at bench and wall height inside a sauna.
• Tight, consistent grain with minimal resin content means you won't see sap bleed or sticky spots develop on the surface as the sauna heats up.
• Actual dimensions of 15mm × 90mm (nominal 1x4) give a fine-scaled, traditional paneling look suited to both sauna walls and ceilings.
• Standard tongue-and-groove milling locks adjacent boards together for a stable, uniform surface with no face fasteners required on the field.
• Available in ten lengths (1 ft through 10 ft) so you can match board length to your layout and minimize offcuts.

1'

• 292mm board length — useful for short-run infill, borders, or accent courses where longer boards would produce excessive waste.

2'

• Suited to compact wall sections or ceiling soffits where a mid-length board reduces unnecessary cutting.

3'

• A practical length for smaller sauna cabins or for running boards vertically on walls with limited floor-to-ceiling height.

4'

• Covers a standard stud bay in a single run, reducing seams on wall fields and simplifying installation layout.

5'

• Balances handleability with coverage, a common choice for ceiling runs in compact two-person saunas.

6'

• Works well for horizontal wall paneling in saunas with standard 6 ft bench-height wall sections.

7'

• A versatile length for full-height vertical paneling in saunas with 7 ft ceilings.

8'

• Covers a full 8 ft wall height in a single vertical board, eliminating horizontal seams on tall sauna walls.

9'

• Accommodates taller sauna enclosures or long horizontal ceiling runs where fewer end-joints improve the finished appearance.

10'

• Maximum available length; minimizes end-joints on large sauna walls or ceilings, producing a cleaner, more continuous look.

SHIPPING & DELIVERY

LUMBER CURBSIDE FREIGHT — QUOTED

Lumber ships curbside freight. The quote is based on the amount of lumber ordered. Our team will provide a freight quote after checkout.

This is the only shipping option when the order includes lumber, including an order that also has a heater. Checkout does not offer another shipping choice on that order.

CURBSIDE

The driver brings the lumber to ground level. Boards over 8 feet ship on a pallet and may need a dock or hand offload. That is part of the quote. We confirm access before it ships.
